The Berkeley YMCA and Berkeley Dojos are affiliated with Shotokan Karate of America (SKA).  We welcome all who are interested in the serious study of traditional Japanese Shotokan Karate. We are fortunate to have a number of very experienced black belts who regularly lead practice: Michael Merlander - sandan, Yann Chemla - sandan, Amor Adams - sandan, and Vance Jones - nidan. Our dojo is composed of 30 or so people most of whom are white and brown belts and have been practicing from a few months to a number of years.

There will be a general practice at 2:00 p.m. followed by public demonstrations. All SKA members, their family, friends as well as the general public are welcome. There will be a reception at a Chinese restaurant nearby, immediately after the event. Dojo leaders &/or managers, please give me a count of attendees from your dojo. The Berkely YMCA Dojo practices at the Downtown Berkeley YMCA (directions here). There is no additional fee for Y members to attend any of our classes. Those who are not Y members who would like to attend should arrange for a guest pass by emailing info(-at-)berkeleyska(-dot-)org (replace the (-at-) with @ and (-dot-) with a .).

Classes are held according to the following schedule -

Tuesday nights, 7:00pm to 8:30pm in the "upstairs" gym.
Thursday nights, 7:00pm to 8:30pm in the "upstairs" gym.
Saturday Afternoon, 12:00 noon to 1:45pm upstairs in the Arobics studio.
